My Favourite MAKR Story
DENNIS SCOTT | Vice President, Production and Engineering
At MAKR, we live by a set of guiding principles known as our MAKR Ways – a collection of 28 statements that every member of our organization, from our global logistics team to our dedicated product representatives, embodies. Among these principles, one of my personal favourites is: Do the right thing, always.
This MAKR Way reads: “Do the right thing, always. Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing in every action you take and every decision you make, especially when no one’s looking. Always tell the truth, no matter the consequences. If you make a mistake, own up to it, apologize, and make it right.”
Throughout my journey with MAKR, I’ve been fortunate to attend numerous park openings and collaborate with the exceptional, hardworking individuals responsible for bringing our projects to life. Naturally, not every endeavor unfolds seamlessly, and we sometimes encounter on-site challenges. In one such instance, during the inauguration of a park in a small town, a snag emerged when the community’s signature feature failed to function correctly. Understandably, the tight-knit community grew apprehensive about the reliability of their new splash pad.
I hopped on a plane and, upon reaching the park site, I found myself redirected to the local sheriff’s office, an unforeseen twist being that the sheriff also held the position of head of the Parks and Recreation Department. In essence, I was about to meet both the head of parks and the law enforcement authority! A bit more than I bargained for; however, I approached the meeting with unwavering confidence because I knew that, whatever the problem, our company would do the right thing, always.
I’m happy to report that after listening to the challenges with the malfunctioning feature we were able to come to a quick resolve and get the splash pad up and running. I also got the chance to live out a childhood dream of taking a non-criminal-related ride in a police cruiser! But the best vote of confidence in our partnership was that, two years later, the community purchased more equipment from Waterplay for a second splash pad project.
There’s no greater source of confidence than knowing that the company standing behind you is steadfast in their commitment to doing the right thing, always.
